In a vibrant celebration of World Photography Day, the Department of Visual Communication, in collaboration with the Photography Club of Hindusthan College of Arts and Science, hosted a captivating guest lecture and a multi-genre photo exhibition at Chanakya Hall.
The event brought together photography enthusiasts, students, and professionals to delve into the art and impact of photography.
The guest of honour, V. Mathimaran, a distinguished reporter from PTI (Press Trust of India) and the founder of the Ooty Documentation Center, graced the occasion with his presence. His insightful address enriched the event, shedding light on the vital role of photography in documenting human experiences and preserving memories.
Dr. J. Jone Antony Raja, Head of the Department, welcomed the attendees and introduced Mathimaran, who spoke eloquently about the transformative power of photography. He emphasized that photography is more than just capturing images; it is a potent medium for storytelling, evoking emotions, and presenting unique perspectives.
Mathimaran highlighted the technological advancements in digital photography, including the impact of editing and image manipulation tools.

The event featured a notable addition this year Yoganathan, a renowned environmentalist and Tamil Nadu government bus operator, who has planted over 500,000 trees, was also honoured.
He was recently celebrated by the Indian President on the 78th anniversary of Independence for his remarkable contribution to environmental preservation.
The session concluded with an engaging interactive question-and-answer segment, allowing students to explore various aspects of photography and seek guidance from Mathimaran.
