The Rotary Club of Coimbatore Downtown conducted its flagship event, Stand and Walk 2024, distributing specially designed calipers and specially designed wheelchairs to 100 differently-abled children on 21st December 2024.

The event was graced by the presence of the Chief Guest Rtn AKS Adv Sundaravadivelu, Rotary District Governor. Rtn MD Godwin, Project Chairman and District Chairman of Youth Service; Rtn MD Godwin Maria Visuvasam, Project Chairman and Rotaract District Youth Service Chair.

This program aims to empower children with mobility challenges, enabling them to stand, walk, and move independently transforming their lives and fulfilling a dream many thought impossible.

Speaking on the occasion, Rtn MD Godwin, said for many families, the high cost of mobility aids and the inability to lift children due to age and physical limitations are significant barriers.

As children with disabilities grow, their parents and caregivers often struggle to provide the necessary assistance. As a result, these children are often confined to their beds, facing difficulties even for basic natural calls and mobility.

The Rotary Club of Coimbatore Downtown recognized the severity of this challenge and took it upon themselves to bring a life-changing solution. Through the Stand and Walk project, the club strives to make these children’s dreams come true, giving them the ability to stand, walk, and move freely, transforming their day-to-day lives.

The benefits of this initiative extend far beyond mobility. Many of the children who receive mobility aids will now have the opportunity to return to school and continue their education. With the ability to move independently, these children can attend classes, engage with their peers, and pursue their academic goals, something that was once a distant dream for many.

The Stand and Walk project not only improves physical mobility but also supports the educational and social development of these children, opening up a world of possibilities for their futures.

The Stand and Walk project, initiated and led by the Rotary Club of Coimbatore Downtown, focuses on providing specially designed calipers to children with DNA handicaps and autism, aged between 8 and 14, as well as individuals of all ages who require mobility assistance. By distributing these mobility aids, the project enhances the independence of differently abled individuals, offering them a chance to lead a life with more freedom.
