Hindusthan Education and Charitable Trust and Hindusthan College of Arts & Science, Jointly organised a campaign “Say No to Plastic Bags” to Combat Plastic Pollution at Maruthamalai recently.
The First-Year BBA Students of Hindusthan College of Arts & Science have taken a significant step towards environmental conservation with their recent initiative.
The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness about the hazards of polythene bags and promote eco-friendly alternatives.
BBA department with the enthusiastic support of the Management, Principal and Head of the Department, organized another campaign themed “Educate and Support.”
Under this initiative, first-year BBA students were divided into groups of four and tasked with visiting local residents to discuss the detrimental effects of plastic bags on the environment.
The students engaged with the community, informing them about the non-biodegradable nature of polythene bags, their impact on soil fertility and their role in choking sewer systems.
In addition to educational outreach, the students collected discarded plastic bags from the Maruthamalai area, demonstrating a hands-on approach to tackling plastic waste.
Shopkeepers in the locality were encouraged to transition away from using plastic carry-bags, and as a tangible solution, reusable bags were distributed free of charge to residents.
The proactive measures and educational efforts resonated with the community, with many individuals committing to eliminate plastic bags from their daily lives.
The initiative received widespread praise from local residents and businesses, who commended the students for their dedication and effective execution of the campaign.
