The Department of Costume Design and Fashion, Hindustan College of Arts and Science (HICAS) hosted a significant Gender Equity program focused on Women’s Empowerment, recently.

The chief guest Bhagyashree, social worker and motivational speaker and other esteemed guests including Kavitha, Advocate; Venkatraman and Ramesh, social workers and Dr. R. Sucharitha, Head of the Department of Costume Design & Fashion. Their insights emphasized the importance of mental well-being and creating awareness about the power of the human mind.

In her keynote address, Bhagyashree highlighted the crucial role of confidence in empowering women. She emphasized that true empowerment starts with self-confidence and drew upon the Bharatiya perspective of equality between men and women, likening it to the divine union of Lord Shiva and Parvati.

She quoted Swami Vivekananda’s famous address to America, underscoring the need for a perspective that fosters equality and prevents discrimination. Bhagyashree advocated for women’s empowerment as a means to equip women with the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary for informed decision-making and active participation in various spheres of life.

The program aimed to create a platform for dialogue on women’s empowerment, with the ultimate goal of fostering a world where women can live free from discrimination and gender-based oppression.
