Tamil Nadu Electricity Consumers’ Association (TECA) welcomed the Tamil Nadu Budget and Pradeep President of the association said, “The budget focuses on Green Energy and Waste to Energy Projects.”

The association also noted the Tamil Nadu government’s strong commitment to renewable energy and sustainable development, as outlined in the state budget.

Further, the President mentioned the announcement of “Green Energy Pumped Storage Projects” with a capacity of 1,100 MW in the Vellimalai area and 1,800 MW in the Aliyar area, to be developed through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) at a total investment of Rs. 11,721 crore, is a significant step toward enhancing renewable energy capacity in the state.

Additionally, he said the government’s plan to develop a 4,000 MWh Battery Energy Storage System in 2025-26 to provide clean energy beyond solar hours is a strategic and forward-thinking measure. “TECA also welcomes the announcement of an “Integrated Renewable Energy Policy” to consolidate and streamline existing renewable energy policies,” Pradeep stated.

He also emphasised that this initiative will strengthen the renewable energy framework and promote sustainable energy growth in Tamil Nadu. “TECA expresses its readiness to collaborate with the government in achieving these goals,” he added.

Furthermore, under the “Integrated Solid Waste Management Project” of the Greater Chennai Corporation, a Bio CNG plant, a composting plant, an Automatic Material Recovery Facility, and a plant for generating 21 MW of electricity from solid waste at the Kodungaiyur dump yard will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs. 3,450 crore.

“Additionally, a Waste-to-Energy Plant will be set up in the Tambaram Corporation, processing 1,500 tons of nonrecyclable waste daily to generate 15–18 MW of electricity, benefiting nearby municipalities and town panchayats,” Pradeep noted.

Tamil Nadu Electricity Consumers’ Association urges the government to provide greater incentives and subsidies to green energy producers, which will boost electricity generation and significantly contribute to the growth of Tamil Nadu’s industrial sector.
