Coimbatore and Tirupur will host the Junior Men Inter-District State Championship for Suguna Trophy 2026 from Tuesday 28th April, V.Lakshminarayanasamy, President, Coimbatore District Hockey Association (CDHA) told reporters on Monday during a press conference.
The tournament set to take place from 28 April to 02 May 2026 will be conducted by the Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu at the recently inaugurated Astro Turf Ground of Coimbatore Corporation in R.S.Puram, Coimbatore and at Kalpana Grounds in Udumalaipet, Tiruppur. V.Lakshminarayanasamy said teams from 35 districts (640 players) of Tamil Nadu will compete.
The tournament holds significant importance as it will serve as the selection platform for identifying talented players who will represent Tamil Nadu in the 16th Hockey India Junior Men National Championship 2026. Performances during this championship will be closely monitored by the state selection committee.

The matches will be conducted in accordance with the rules and regulations of Hockey India, ensuring a high standard of competition. The championship aims to provide young athletes with an opportunity to showcase their skills, gain competitive exposure, and contribute to the continued success of Tamil Nadu Hockey at the National level.
17 teams will compete in Coimbatore while 18 team will clash in Tiruppur. Coimbatore will host the Quarter Finals and the Finals of the tournament.
“Coimbatore received this opportunity to host this sport event as we have the Hockey Turf here. We hope more spectators would show up during the games and this would strengthen the love for hockey among public and also create new players,” V.Lakshminarayanasamy said.
