To mark World Stroke Month, Emcure in collaboration with the Indian Stroke Association organised a conference in the name ‘Mission Brain Attack’ at a private hotel in the city, recently.

Dr. Asokan, Chief Neurologist at Sri Ramakrishna Hospital while addressing the gathering said hospitalising the patients within the first few hours is crucial for treating a stroke. This allows doctors to begin thrombolysis, a procedure that dissolves blood clots in the affected brain vessels during an ischaemic stroke.

Dr. Prakash, neurologist at KMCH said that a stroke is similar to a heart attack in that both result from blocked blood vessels; however, in a stroke, the brain is affected instead of the heart. While people typically seek immediate treatment for chest pain during a heart attack, many either overlook or are unaware of the early warning signs of a stroke.
