Tamil Nadu’s Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar participated in the valedictory of the Western Ghats Lit Fest 2026 held in Coimbatore, where he underscored the importance of cultivating reading habit among children.

The two-day literature festival organized by ‘The Verandah Club’ at Radisson Blu saw the Governor talk about books, literature festivals and Viksit Bharat. More than 36 experts from diverse fields—including literature, history, culture, economics, and national policy, participated in discussions during the two-day event.

“It is essential to encourage students to read books beyond their school textbooks. He noted that literature festivals should not merely serve as platforms for intellectual discourse but should also yield meaningful outcomes to the society,” the governor remarked.

Sharing his opinion about Viksit Bharat, the Governor stated that a developed India by the year 2047 should not merely focus on economic growth; rather, it must encompass progress in fields such as literature, education, healthcare, and social development, while also ensuring the upliftment of marginalized sections of the society.

He then released the book titled “Vidura’s Wisdom – Indic Leadership Principles for Modern Leaders,” authored by Matrushree Ananthalakshmi, Swami Agasthyananda Giri and Nigamanth Srivatsan of the Anadhi Foundation.

The book examines readership, decision making and institution building in today’s context. Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said, “I am delighted to release this book. The themes addressed herein are highly relevant to the challenges we face today. In the Mahabharata, Vidura is regarded as a figure of profound wisdom; it is essential to understand this legacy, which has been passed down to us through the Mahabharata.”
