As Coimbatore gears up to celebrate India’s 80th Independence Day, around 2,000 police personnel have been deployed for security arrangements across the city and district.

Of them, 1,200 personnel are engaged in security duties within the city limits, while another 800 are deployed across the district. Security and surveillance have been intensified at places where large crowds are expected to gather.

The District Administration will celebrate Independence Day at VOC Grounds in the city, and the venue has been brought under police control as part of the security arrangements. Coimbatore District Collector Pavan Kumar will hoist the national flag at 8.50 a.m. as part of the celebrations.
