Sanjay Kumar, a native of Coimbatore studying in Germany participated in Metropol Marathon, a popular annual running event in the country, and successfully ran the full marathon category, completing 42 kms within 3 hr 30 mins, making him one among the select few to achieve this feat.

Rtn. Varadharajan, who is Sanjay’s father shared that the marathon is an internationally popular one, that has been held since 2007. The event is organized every year in mid-June, and it attracts about 9,000 participants. This running event offers distances for all skill levels, from full marathons to kids’ runs. The marathon starts in either Fürth or Nuremberg.

The Slogan of the event is “Vom Kleeblatt zur Kaiserburg,” translating to “From the cloverleaf (symbol of Fürth) to the imperial castle (in Nuremberg)”. The route is designed to link the neighboring cities of Fürth and Nuremberg, and it provides an excellent way to tour historic urban sights and scenic green spaces between the two major Bavarian cities.

Participants can choose from several events based on their fitness level including the Full Marathon that is 42.195 km, Half Marathon – 21.0975 km, Relay Marathon, 10 km Run, Nordic Walking – a 10 km walking event.
