Pedestrians and motorists have become frustrated with the absence of a proper traffic regulation system at Pappanaickenpalayam region (Netaji Road – Katoor Road junction) for more than a year now.

2 schools and a leading private hospital function near this locality, and the path is used by thousands of people every single day. Auto-rickshaws, taxis, cars and two-wheelers, most of all ambulances pass this way to reach the hospital. Parents too use this junction to pick their kids home.
While the flow of traffic and pedestrian movement is certainly strong here, the traffic signal installed here repeatedly fails to function like it should. And no matter how many times this gets written in newspapers, posted in social media, the signal is not repaired.
What makes it absurd is the fact that the concerned authorities have installed signals at the extreme end of the hospital where there is no need at all.

A signal is installed at the point where Netaji road meets Avinashi road, but the signal is of no use to pedestrians or motorists as the turning point is closed using concrete barricades. No vehicle will make a turn or stop because of this signal, because there is clearly no need for it. It only displays the yellow light and plays no role in regulating traffic either.
While the barricade prevents movement of vehicles from Avinashi road to enter Netaji Road and pass the hospital (which was how once traffic used to move), pedestrians push themselves between the gaps of the barricade to cross the road.
It is sad to see that traffic signals are installed where they are not required but are absent from where they are badly needed.
