Office-bearers and members of Race Course and Neighbourhood Areas (RANA) Trust met with Coimbatore City Corporation Commissioner Kata Ravi Teja IAS on Tuesday, to discuss various issues affecting the locality and seek solutions from the local administration for them.

The need to open the parking facility (behind the 108 Vinayagar Temple) in Race Course for public use, creation of designated feeding zones for street-dogs, the issue of loose tree branches falling on people and vehicles were taken to the attention of the Commissioner. Listening to the requests of the residents, the Commissioner responded positively to them.

He said the necessary action regarding the opening of parking facility will be taken at the earliest. Suitable areas have been identified by the authorities to set up designated feeding zones for street-dogs, and the commissioner told that the work is in process.

With regards to the falling of tree branches, the Commissioner has directed officials to identify dead and dangerous trees and refer the matter to the District Green Committee for the necessary permissions to remove dead trees or prune unsafe branches. The work is currently in progress.

Members of RANA shared that after representing the issue of streetlights with the commissioner, most of the poorly functioning streetlights have been restored. They thanked him for his intervention, and also expressed their gratitude for responding to their concerns.

“We hope that continued cooperation between the Corporation, residents and civic organisations will ensure that Race Course remains a safe, green and peaceful space dedicated to the health and fitness of the people of Coimbatore,” RANA’s members said.

Earlier, the commissioner personally inspected the rainwater harvesting structures installed under the Smart City initiative along with structures created by Siruthuli in Race Course to capture runoff and recharge the aquifer.

It is important to state that Siruthuli has also recently rejuvenated four rainwater harvesting structures by cleaning them and flushing the bore tubes and recharge wells.
