The National Service Scheme (NSS) and the Department of Computer Science of KPR College of Arts Science and Research, Coimbatore, jointly organised a tree plantation drive and a relief materials distribution programme at orphanages recently.
The tree plantation drive was conducted at Chandrapuram Village under Kaduvettipalayam Panchayat. As part of the initiative, 105 indigenous tree saplings were planted in and around Chandrapuram Village.
The relief materials distribution programme was held at Malarum Vizhigal Orphanage and Eeranenjam Orphanage in R.S. Puram, Coimbatore.
The Principal of the college, Geetha, inaugurated the programme and appreciated the efforts of the younger generation, stating that their love for nature and compassion towards fellow human beings were truly commendable.
Geethanjali, Deputy Block Development Officer, participated as the chief guest and emphasised that students should continue to actively engage in socially responsible activities that contribute to the welfare of society.
Addressing the gathering, Gopalsamy, Secretary of Kaduvettipalayam Panchayat, highlighted the importance of environmental conservation and stated that protecting nature would help ensure a better future for the younger generation.
Students enthusiastically participated in the initiative and donated food items, medical supplies, educational materials and clothing to the residents of the orphanages.
A total of 120 student volunteers actively participated in both programmes.
