With the aim to take breast cancer screening services closer to women, a mobile Mammography Screening vehicle was officially launched by Lions Club 3242-C on Friday at PSG Hospital campus.

Financially backed by Lions Clubs, Aruna Abhay Oswal Foundation, and Craftsman Automation, Coimbatore, this vehicle will provide breast cancer screening services to women, especially to those in the underserved and rural communities in and around Coimbatore district with the technical support of PSG Hospitals, Coimbatore.

Aruna Oswal, Past Director of Lions International and the Chairperson of Aruna Abhey Oswal Trust inaugurated this vehicle in the presence of Srinivasan, Director, Lions International; Dr. Balaji, Director, PSG Institute of Oncology; Selvaraj, Governor, Lions District 3242-C; R. Nithyanantham, Project Chairperson and G.Ramasamy, Past Director of Lions International. Janakiram of PSG Hospitals spearheaded the coordination of the launch event of the vehicle.

Speaking at the event, Dr.Balaji said that cancer is a disease that not only affects the person who is diagnosed with it, but the entire family emotionally and financially.

He shared that breast cancer, gyne cancers, head and neck cancers, and GI cancers are the commonest cancers affecting humans, and most people who are affected by any of these cancers travel a great distance to get access to good oncology care.

“This project, which you have put together so appropriately timed, allows us to do early detection, pick up cancers early so we can treat them, cure them, and get individuals back into the community to lead a normal, productive life. Initiatives like this make it possible for us to do this and save many lives,” Dr.Balaji remarked.
