CS Howlers, the school band of CS Academy, Coimbatore, has secured the first runner-up position at the Yamaha Music Competition, competing against more than 270 school bands from across India.

The achievement marks a significant milestone in the musical journey of the young musicians, earning them national-level recognition.

Competing against more than 270 school bands, CS Howlers progressed through multiple rounds to secure a place among the top 20 bands nationally, advance to the top five finalists and ultimately finish second in the country.

The achievement is particularly noteworthy as the band was formed in 2024, when its members were just 11 years old.

The competition also provided the young musicians with an opportunity to perform before Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman, making it a memorable experience and an important milestone in their musical development.

Since its formation, CS Howlers has grown from a group of enthusiastic young musicians into a competitive school band, demonstrating musical talent, creativity, discipline and teamwork.

Under the guidance of their band coach, the students have honed their performance skills while learning the importance of collaboration and ensemble playing.

The Yamaha Music Competition achievement adds to the band’s impressive record at national-level and inter-school music competitions. CS Howlers has won the Furtados Band-It National-Level Music Competition twice consecutively.

The band also secured second place at the GSIS Class of Chords Competition in 2025 before returning in 2026 to emerge as champions.

Beyond competitions, CS Howlers has performed at several public events and live music platforms.

These include Glee Social and Starbucks in Coimbatore in 2024, Global Pathways Schools in 2026, and EUPHONY – Live in Concert at CS Academy, Erode, in 2026. These performances have provided the students with valuable opportunities to showcase their musical abilities before diverse audiences.

The band’s musical journey extends beyond performing songs by established artists. The students have actively explored songwriting, composition, arrangement, recording and music production, gaining experience in various aspects of music creation.

In 2024, CS Howlers created and released its original song, Wake Up, with students contributing to the lyrics, tune and overall composition.

In 2025, the band released its own arrangement and recording of Feeling Good, accompanied by a music video on YouTube.

Through these initiatives, the students have developed an understanding of music as both a performing art and a collaborative creative process.

Their experiences have helped them grow not only as musicians but also as emerging songwriters and music creators.

The national-level recognition marks another significant achievement for CS Howlers and CS Academy, Coimbatore, highlighting the potential of young musicians when provided with opportunities, guidance and encouragement to pursue their creative interests.
