The Department of Interventional Pulmonology at G. Kuppuswamy Naidu Memorial Hospital (GKNMH), in association with the Coimbatore Respiratory Society, inaugurated the second edition of the Thoracic Ultrasound & Basic ECHO Workshop on Saturday.

The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Ragupathy Veluswamy, Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, along with Dr. Keertivasan, Secretary of the Coimbatore Respiratory Society. Consultants from GKNMH’s Department of Interventional Pulmonology, including Dr. Sundarakumar, Dr. Senthilkumar, Dr. Vijayaravindh, and Dr. Harivignesh, were also present.

Organised as part of GKNMH’s ongoing efforts to promote Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) in pulmonology and critical care, the workshop attracted around 100 delegates from across the country.
The programme featured interactive case-based discussions covering pulmonology, critical care, and emergency medicine. It brought together reputed faculty from the fields of pulmonology, intensive care medicine, and emergency medicine.

Participants received extensive hands-on training in bedside thoracic ultrasonography using animal models and mannequins. Two dedicated workstations were also set up for Basic ECHO training.
The workshop focused on enhancing diagnostic and procedural skills in bedside thoracic ultrasonography, a rapidly evolving tool in respiratory medicine. It included both basic and advanced procedural skill stations and was led by senior pulmonologists and ultrasound experts from across the country.

Dr. Sundarakumar, Head of the Department of Interventional Pulmonology, highlighted the growing significance of lung ultrasound in bedside care. “In an era of non-invasive, rapid diagnostics, lung ultrasound is becoming an essential skill for every pulmonologist. This workshop aims to bridge the gap between theory and practice,” he said.
The workshop was organised by Dr. Vijayaravindh, Interventional Pulmonologist and Organising Secretary, along with the hospital’s team of pulmonologists, Dr. Senthilkumar and Dr. Harivignesh.
