In a remarkable act of bravery, a stray dog named Kali sacrificed her life while protecting schoolchildren from a venomous snake in a village in Mayurbhanj, Odisha, on Monday morning.

The incident occurred around 8:30 am at Sri Jagannath Sishu Vidya Mandir, where over 30 kindergarten students were seated outside their school premises. A venomous snake suddenly approached the group, posing an immediate threat to the children.

Sensing the danger, Kali rushed into action and stopped the snake before it could reach the students. A fierce fight followed, and the dog kept attacking the snake even after being bitten many times. In the end, Kali killed the snake and saved all the children.

However, the injuries caused Kali’s death. Bitten on the mouth during the fight, the dog later died from the venom.

The incident has left the entire village in mourning. Known and loved by locals, Kali was given a ceremonial farewell. Her body was placed on a trolley, adorned with flowers, and covered in a white cloth as villagers carried her in a solemn procession before her burial.

Residents praised her as a hero, saying her sacrifice would never be forgotten. ‘Kali saved our children. She will remain immortal in our hearts,’ villagers said. The incident was reported by Dailyhunt.
