As part of ongoing efforts to address the growing concern of drug addiction among youth, PSG Hospitals, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Coimbatore East under its flagship Project D.R.E.A.M., and the AAVA Foundation (Advocacy for Awareness and Vital Assistance), organised a Drug Awareness program.
The event was held on the topic “Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life” at G.R. Damodaran Academy of Management on 30th July 2025
Dr. Varunn, Pulmonologist and Medical Superintendent of PSG Hospitals, was the Chief Guest.
In his address to the students, Dr. Varunn spoke about the ill effects of consuming substances such as cigarettes, alcohol, and other drugs. He highlighted that e-cigarettes are equally harmful as regular cigarettes and discussed the dangers of passive and third-hand smoking.
He also emphasised the adverse effects of alcohol consumption, noting its impact on brain activity, logical thinking, liver damage, and its potential to cause infertility.
Additionally, he noted the common myths related to drug use and shared information about the helpline number available for de-addiction support.
To be noted, PSG Hospitals has been actively involved in community health programs, with a strong emphasis on public education and preventive care.
This initiative is part of the ‘M – Mann Sakthi’ component of Rotary’s D.R.E.A.M. project — Daughter, Reach Out, Embrace, Annapoorani, Mann Sakthi — which highlights the importance of mental health, emotional wellness, addiction awareness, de-addiction support, and suicide prevention.
The event also aligns with the goals of the AAVA Foundation’s Wellness 360° initiative, which focuses on preventive health education and provides support to the underprivileged, particularly through awareness programs on drug use, smoking, and emotional well-being.
