On 18th June 2025, the Government of India launched ‘Operation Sindhu’ to evacuate Indian nationals from Iran, in response to the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel.

The first batch of 100 students returned to Delhi from Armenia on the morning of 19th June.

Officials from the Iranian Embassy stated that some Indian students sustained injuries in a strike. The Iranian Foreign Ministry is reportedly in close contact with the Indian Mission in Tehran.

In an official statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said “As part of the ongoing operation, the Indian Embassy in Iran has been assisting large numbers of Indian nationals in relocating from areas facing increased hostilities to relatively safer regions within the country, with the aim of subsequently evacuating them through available and feasible options.”

Indian nationals in Iran have been advised to stay in touch with the Indian Embassy in Tehran through its emergency helpline and with the 24×7 Control Room established by the MEA in New Delhi.
