Dr. NGP Institute of Technology recently hosted the DOS Club CodeZap 2026 Grand Finale Hackathon, the flagship innovation event of the Descience Open Source (DOS) Club.
Organised in association with Touchmark Descience and OriginBI Mindworks, the 36-hour hackathon brought together 50 engineering students from five institutions across Tamil Nadu to develop innovative technology solutions addressing real-world societal challenges.
The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Prabha, Principal of Dr. NGP Institute of Technology. Sai Pradeep, Director – Placements, delivered the welcome address.
Sathyaprakash Sekaran, Director – HR, Ziffity Solutions, Chennai, delivered the special address, encouraging students to embrace innovation and continuously enhance their technical competencies to meet evolving industry expectations.
An introduction to the DOS Club CodeZap initiative was presented by Mohanraaj Govindaswamy, Chief Technical Officer, Touchmark Descience. The event was also attended by Bharathiraja Thangappalam, Chief Executive Officer, Touchmark Descience, and Subburaj Thangappalam, Project Manager, L&T Technology Services, Pune.
The second edition of CodeZap witnessed the participation of 50 students representing five engineering institutions: Dr. N.G.P. Institute of Technology, Coimbatore; Meenakshi College of Engineering, Chennai; Knowledge Institute of Technology, Salem; CMS College of Engineering, Namakkal; and Unnamalai Institute of Technology, Kovilpatti.
The finalists were grouped into 10 interdisciplinary teams, each comprising students from different institutions, fostering collaboration beyond campus boundaries.
During the 36-hour hackathon, participants conceptualised, designed, developed, and demonstrated innovative software products aimed at addressing practical societal challenges.
The projects were evaluated by an expert panel comprising Ragunath, Director – Technology & Delivery Head (EMEA), Verticurl; Ashok Kumar Subramanian, Vice President – Engineering, Ticket International Network; Praveen Chakkravarthy, Director – Research and Head, Department of Biomedical Engineering, Dr. N.G.P. Institute of Technology; and Selva Muthu Kumar, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer, WiTree Technology Solutions.
The jury assessed the projects based on innovation, technical implementation, scalability, usability, presentation, teamwork, and social impact.

To recognise outstanding performance, the Champion Team was awarded a fully sponsored three-day educational learning trip to Singapore. The First Runner-up received a cash prize of ₹25,000, the Second Runner-up received ₹10,000, while the Third Runner-up received a special gift and recognition.
CodeZap 2026 showcased the strength of industry-academia collaboration by providing students with a platform to transform innovative ideas into practical technology solutions while preparing them for careers in product engineering and entrepreneurship.
