The 59th Nachimuthu Gounder Cup for Men and 23rd CRI Pumps Trophy for Women organized by Coimbatore District Basketball Association (CDBA) began today at the Basketball Open Air Stadium near Nehru Stadium.

The matches are taking place in league format till May 29th, followed by the Semi Finals on 30th and the finals on 31st (Sunday)event cdba 2
In the opening match of the tournament the men’s team from Indian Army faced Kerala Police.  The ballers from the Army hustled their way to score 44 points in the first half while Kerala Police managed to add 36 pts. But they made costly mistakes in the 2nd quarter and were trailing by 12 points throughout the 4th quarter.

The Army was consistently scoring back and forth while the Police tried their best to reduce turnovers and fouls. However the gap between them and Army kept increasing from 12 points to a 17 point difference. In the end, the Army defeated the Police in the maiden match, 83-66 in the second half.
