Veteran radio broadcaster R.Sreedher, who has worked in Coimbatore for All India Radio and who as per sources has settled in Coimbatore was honored with the prestigious Padma Shri award for his exceptional contribution to visualizing and adopting futuristic technologies in radio and audio podcasts.

Sreedher has an experience of more than five decades in radio, and has worked for AIR in Coimbatore, Chennai and New Delhi. He has worked in AIR alone for 23 years, and is hailed as it first science reporter.

Born in Tambaram, Sreedher served as the Head of Media Sciences in Anna University, Chennai where he setup Anna Community Radio in 2004, which is considered as the first community radio in India. He is often called as the Father of Community Radio in India.
