A Convocation Ceremony for candidates who recently cleared the Chartered Accountancy examinations conducted by The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India was held in Coimbatore as part of the nationwide convocation celebrations organised across India for newly qualified Chartered Accountants.
This year, nearly 10,930 students successfully cleared the CA examinations across the country. In Coimbatore, the convocation was held for the first time, during which around 110 newly qualified Chartered Accountants received their degrees and certificates.
Ramasamy, All India Past President of ICAI (2011-12), graced as the Chief Guest and presented the certificates and convocation degrees to the successful candidates.
Welcoming the gathering, Survajith Krishnan, Chairman, Coimbatore ICAI, stated that there is a growing demand for the Chartered Accountancy course and highlighted the strong practical training system through Articleship, which plays a vital role in shaping competent professionals.
He also noted that campus placement opportunities for newly qualified Chartered Accountants are witnessing significant growth.
He further informed that the Coimbatore Branch of ICAI has been regularly conducting professional development programmes, seminars and knowledge-sharing sessions for members, especially in view of the proposed new Income Tax Act and emerging developments in the profession.
He thanked the ICAI leadership for making Coimbatore a convocation centre for the first time and described it as a proud and historic moment for the city.
Addressing the gathering, CA Ramasamy said it was a historic occasion for Coimbatore, a city already known for industry, entrepreneurship and education.
He stated that the convocation celebrated not just academic success, but also years of dedication, sacrifice and transformation.
He remarked that the Chartered Accountancy qualification represents not only technical mastery but also the ability to shoulder public trust and professional responsibility.
Highlighting the growth of ICAI, he said the institution, established on July 1, 1949, with just 1,700 members and 259 students, has today grown into the world’s second-largest accounting organisation with nearly 4.1 lakh members and over 10 lakh students pursuing CA courses across India.
He explained that becoming a Chartered Accountant requires rigorous examinations, practical training and adherence to the professional standards prescribed by the Institute.
He noted that nearly 1.6 lakh Chartered Accountants are currently in public practice, contributing to auditing,
taxation, advisory services and financial governance, while many others occupy key positions in industry, government and corporate sectors.
Expressing gratitude to parents, teachers, mentors and peers, he acknowledged their sacrifices and support in shaping the careers of the newly qualified professionals.
He also appreciated students who overcame physical, financial and personal challenges to achieve success and stressed the importance of accessibility and inclusivity in professional education.
Speaking about the changing role of Chartered Accountants, CA Ramasamy said the profession today extends far beyond bookkeeping and auditing. He stated that modern Chartered Accountants are emerging as strategists, risk managers, consultants, CFOs, entrepreneurs and policy advisers.
He highlighted growing opportunities in areas such as mergers and acquisitions, international taxation, IPO advisory, cross-border transactions and global financial reporting standards, including IFRS.
He emphasised that globalisation and international business practices are creating new opportunities for Indian Chartered Accountants. Referring to ICAI’s international recognition and mutual agreements, he encouraged young professionals to specialise in IFRS, transfer pricing, international taxation and global audit standards to enhance India’s professional presence worldwide.
On technological transformation, he said Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, robotics process automation, blockchain, cloud computing and advanced analytics are rapidly reshaping the profession.
He stated that technology should not be viewed as a threat but as an opportunity for Chartered Accountants to move into higher-value advisory and strategic roles.
“Data literacy and the ability to interpret insights from large datasets will become as important as technical accounting knowledge,” he said.
He also highlighted the growing importance of virtual CFO services, remote audits and digital collaboration platforms, stating that professionals can now serve global clients from any location with the support of technology.
CA G. Ramasamy further stated that the profession is witnessing a shift from time-based billing to value-based services, where clients increasingly expect measurable business outcomes and strategic guidance.
He urged young CAs to develop leadership, communication, negotiation and client- management skills along with technical expertise.
Highlighting the importance of ethics and governance, he said Chartered Accountants play a critical role in maintaining transparency, accountability and investor confidence. He stressed that ethical conduct, accurate disclosures and good corporate governance are essential for sustainable economic growth.
He also emphasised the important role Chartered Accountants can play in supporting MSMEs by helping them adopt formal accounting systems, access credit, comply with GST regulations and scale their businesses sustainably.
Speaking about the evolving tax environment, he referred to international taxation reforms, BEPS regulations, digital taxation and transfer pricing, and urged young professionals to continuously update their knowledge and skills in these emerging areas.
Quoting classical Tamil literature, he stressed the importance of lifelong learning and continuous upskilling.
He encouraged newly qualified professionals to pursue certifications and expertise in areas such as data analytics, forensic accounting, ESG reporting, valuation and leadership.
Quoting Abdul Kalam, he said, “Dream is not that which you see while sleeping; it is something that does not let you sleep,” urging the graduates to pursue excellence with dedication and purpose.
The event was attended by Rajesh, Regional Council Member, and Arun, Regional Council Member, along with members of the profession, parents and distinguished guests.
Concluding his address, CA Ramasamy reminded the graduates that “Results require routines” and encouraged them to continue learning, adapting to change and serving society with integrity and excellence.
