The Institute of Indian Foundrymen (IIF), Coimbatore Chapter, has welcomed the progressive initiative of the Government of Tamil Nadu, under the leadership of Chief Minister Joseph Vijay, to streamline the interception and verification of goods in transit under the GST framework.

The chapter thanked Joseph Vijay, Marie Wilson, Minister for Finance; Logesh Tamilselvan, Minister for Commercial Taxes; Mathan Raja, Minister for MSME; and Nagarajan, Commissioner, Commercial Taxes Department, Government of Tamil Nadu, for the swift implementation of the decisions taken at the 57th GST Council meeting held recently.

“Introducing an intelligence-based approach to interception by flying squads is a significant step towards fostering a more transparent, predictable and business-friendly regulatory environment,” the chapter stated in a press release.

The IIF Coimbatore Chapter expressed its sincere appreciation to the Chief Minister and the Government of Tamil Nadu for recognising the importance of facilitating legitimate trade while maintaining effective tax compliance.

The move towards interceptions based on specific intelligence, appropriate authorisation and written documentation reflects a progressive approach to administration that can strengthen trust between industry and government, the chapter added.

For the foundry sector, which forms a critical part of the manufacturing ecosystem and supports the automotive, engineering, agricultural equipment and several other industries, the uninterrupted movement of raw materials and finished goods is essential.

Unnecessary delays in transit can affect production schedules, increase logistics costs and impact the competitiveness of Indian manufacturers. A transparent, accountable and intelligence-led enforcement mechanism can help reduce avoidable disruptions and improve operational efficiency across the supply chain.

Ease of Doing Business must remain a key priority in governance. Industry needs a regulatory environment that encourages investment, supports the growth of MSMEs, promotes employment and enables manufacturers to compete effectively in domestic and global markets. Reforms that balance enforcement with fairness and predictability are essential to achieving these objectives.

The chapter expressed hope that this progressive approach would extend to other areas of governance, further strengthening Tamil Nadu’s reputation as a preferred destination for manufacturing, investment and industrial growth.

The Institute of Indian Foundrymen, Coimbatore Chapter, reiterated its commitment to working constructively with the government to build a competitive, transparent and industry-friendly ecosystem that supports the long-term growth of Tamil Nadu’s manufacturing sector.
