The intersection before Sri Ramakrishna Arts and Science College often gets congested due to the large number of vehicles passing through from three different directions: Avarampalayam, Avinashi Road, and Gandhipuram. Thus navigating this area becomes irksome and difficult during peak hours.
This zone is a bustling commercial hub, featuring a popular supermarket, multiple eateries, and restaurants, which further increases traffic flow from customer walk-ins. In addition to this, active, large-scale construction is underway at two locations in Nava India, bringing heavy construction vehicles onto the stretch.
Combined with the presence of two private colleges in the area, student foot traffic is exceptionally high. While vehicles somehow manage to navigate the congestion, pedestrians find it particularly hard to cross safely.
A similar situation existed near GKNM Hospital. The four-cornered junction near Mani Higher Secondary School in Pappanaickenpalayam was a dangerous bottleneck for both pedestrians and motorists due to traffic signals remaining defunct for nearly two years.
The non-functional signal at the Netaji Road–Katoor Road junction created widespread frustration, failing to regulate traffic or protect pedestrians. This signal was once a vital piece of infrastructure, facilitating safe passage for hundreds of students from two popular schools, thousands of daily commuters, and numerous ambulances, patients, and visitors heading to the hospital.
Thanks to the generosity of private entities, the City Police Department has now installed new traffic signals at both the Pappanaickenpalayam and Nava India stretches.
The signal installed near Mani School junction is fully operational and is already proving effective in mitigating road risks, while the one at Nava India (Sri Ramakrishna College Junction) is installed and is scheduled to become operational shortly.
