The ₹50-lakh project is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Coimbatore Central and implemented by Siruthuli, with support from the Water Resources Department and Coimbatore Corporation. A Bhoomi Pooja was held to mark the inauguration.

Speaking at the inaugural event, Rtn. Manoj Kumar, President of the Rotary Club of Coimbatore Central, highlighted Rotary’s commitment to protecting Coimbatore’s water resources and creating a lasting environmental impact.

He noted that the rejuvenated anaicut is expected to hold nearly 35 million litres of water, significantly supporting groundwater recharge and strengthening water security in the region, particularly in southern Coimbatore.

Vanitha Mohan, Managing Trustee, Siruthuli, outlined the importance of water conservation and the need to address sewage treatment. Balasubramaniam, Chairman, Siruthuli, offered his felicitations.

Subramanian, Steering Committee Member, Siruthuli, explained the project and emphasised the urgent need for water conservation, particularly during El Niño years, when erratic rainfall and prolonged dry spells can intensify water stress.

Historian Elangovan explained the history and importance of the 165-km-long Noyyal River and how it has been an integral part of the lives of people in the region for centuries.

The rejuvenation project will also improve the water quality of the 320-acre Kurichi Lake, an important source of groundwater recharge for southern Coimbatore.
