Valluvan (58), an engineer-turned natural farmer from Veetaikaranpudur, Coimbatore was honoured in a recent ceremony for receiving the prestigious United Nations – Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Soil Farmer Hero Award.
M.Krishnan, MD, Sri Krishna Sweets; KP Ramaswamy, Chairman, KPR Group; B.K.Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, Chairman, Kumaraguru Institutions and R.S.Maruti, District Governor, Rotary International District 3206 honored him.
The ceremony was jointly organized by Rotary Club of Thondamuthur, Coimbatore Builders and Contractors Association (CEBACA) and Namadhu Nambikai Publications. Valluvan transformed his 11-hectare farm into a highly profitable multi-crop, tree-based farming enterprise. Sources said that he was supported by Isha Foundation under the Save Soil-Cauvery Calling Program.
