A new chapter in higher education began with the launch of P.K. Das Deemed to be University, established under the aegis of the Nehru Group of Institutions.

Realising the vision of Late P.K. Das, Founder Chairman of the Nehru Group of Institutions, the university builds on the group’s distinguished legacy of more than five decades in education. Since 1968, the NAAC-accredited and NIRF-ranked Nehru Group, with NBA-accredited programmes, has educated over one lakh students and produced professionals serving across the globe.

The unveiling ceremony of P.K. Das Deemed to be University and its first three academic schools was held recently at the university campus, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s educational journey.

Approved to commence academic programmes from the 2026-27 academic year, the university has been conceived as a multidisciplinary institution dedicated to academic excellence, research, innovation, entrepreneurship and societal development. It will begin its academic journey with three schools – the School of Technology, the School of Health Sciences and the School of Social Sciences.

The inaugural academic programmes include four-year courses in Avionics and Drone Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Medical Imaging, Radiology and Imaging Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Operation Theatre and Anaesthesia Technology, Performing Arts and Indology.

University authorities said the programmes have been designed to address emerging opportunities in advanced technologies, healthcare, creative disciplines and Indian knowledge systems. By integrating academic rigour with experiential learning, industry engagement, research exposure and innovation-driven education, the university aims to produce globally competent, future-ready graduates.

Located in Coimbatore, the university features an advanced academic ecosystem with AI-powered laboratories, research centres, innovation and incubation hubs, technology-enabled learning spaces and industry-integrated training facilities.

Speaking on the occasion, Krishna Das, Chancellor of P.K. Das Deemed to be University, said, “We are committed to the 100% implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 across all levels of teaching, learning, research, innovation and student development.”

He said that, as a deemed-to-be university established under the Distinct Category, the University enjoys greater academic autonomy and flexibility, enabling it to offer multidisciplinary education, industry-integrated curricula, research-driven learning, multiple entry and exit options, and global collaborations. This status, he added, positions the university as a future-ready institution aligned with national priorities and global standards.

Dr. P. Krishnakumar, Pro-Chancellor of P.K. Das Deemed to be University, said the university aims to emerge as a globally recognised institution within a short span through academic excellence, research, innovation and international collaborations. He added that partnerships with leading universities and industries across the world would provide students with global exposure, research opportunities, international exchange programmes and enhanced career prospects.

The event commenced with a welcome address by Nagaraja, Executive Director of the Nehru Group of Institutions. The vote of thanks was delivered by Anirudhan, Director – Rankings, Accreditation and Placements, Nehru Group of Institutions.
