The PG and Research Department of Biotechnology of Kongunadu Arts and Science College, Coimbatore organized a 5-day national level workshop, sponsored by ICMR-Department of Health Research recently.

Held on the topic Genomic and Metagenomic Approaches for Detection and Tracking of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Pathogens, the workshop is structured to maximize both theoretical and practical learning.

Dr. Jayalakshmi, MD, Professor & Head of Microbiology, KMCH Institute of Health Sciences & Research, Coimbatore delivered the keynote addres. Drawing on her clinical expertise, she explained how genomic sequencing and metagenomic tools are transforming the detection of resistant pathogens.

She stressed that bridging laboratory research with clinical practice is essential to combat AMR effectively. “Antimicrobial resistance is silently eroding the foundations of modern medicine. By equipping young scientists with genomic and metagenomic skills, we can strengthen our fight against this global threat,” she remarked.

A total of 100 participants from across India attended. V. Elakkiya, Workshop Convenor. V.Sangeetha, Principal of the College, Madhan Shankar, Advisor of KASC also attended.
