VGM Hospital inaugurated the VGM Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Clinic on the occasion of World Digestive Health Day, reinforcing its commitment to providing specialized care for patients with IBD.

The clinic was inaugurated by Padma Bhushan awardee Dr. Palanisamy, Senior Gastroenterologist.

IBD, which includes Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, is increasingly being diagnosed among adolescents and young adults in India. Experts highlighted the importance of early diagnosis, particularly for individuals experiencing persistent diarrhoea, blood in stools, abdominal pain, unexplained weight loss, anaemia, or fatigue.

The newly launched clinic will offer comprehensive multidisciplinary care, including advanced endoscopic diagnostics, biologic therapies, nutritional support, and minimally invasive surgical management for complex IBD cases.

As part of the initiative, the hospital also introduced “My Gut, My Voice,” a monthly patient support and education forum aimed at helping patients and caregivers better understand and manage IBD.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr V.G. Mohan Prasad, Founder and Chairman, VGM Gastro Centre, said the VGM IBD Clinic would provide evidence-based, patient-centred care while enhancing public awareness of the early symptoms and modern treatment options for IBD.

The scientific session began with an introduction by Dr. Vamsi Murthy, Consultant Medical Gastroenterologist of the hospital. The programme featured presentations by Dr. Madhura Prasad Suman, Consultant Medical Gastroenterologist at VGM, on IBD and the gut microbiome; Dr. Divyasarathy, Yoga Physician, on nutrition and wellness; and Sumanthran, IBD Counsellor, on psychological support for patients.

The programme was coordinated by Dr. Mithra Prasad, Consultant Hepatologist at VGM. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. C.P.S. Suman, Orthopaedic Surgeon at VGM.
