Idhayangal Charitable Trust is a Coimbatore-based NGO working continuously at the grassroots level to support children battling Type 1 diabetes and also help kids belonging to the financially weaker parts of society.
It has supported 4000+ children with type 1diabetes across India, and has also provided advanced medical support, including high-quality insulin, glucose monitoring devices, glucose strips, and insulin pumps to underprivileged kids.
The trust celebrated its 9th anniversary recently at Kikani High School Campus. The event was attended by donors, doctors, Rotary Club members, and members of the public.
Dr. Krishnan Swaminathan, Founder of the Trust, shared that children who were once at risk of losing their lives due to Type 1 diabetes are now continuing their school and college education with proper and timely treatment through the assistance from the Trust. Some have become professionals and begun earning with confidence.

With the aim of early detection and treatment of the disease, the Trust’s services are currently extended across 38 districts in Tamil Nadu. At present, diabetes treatment centres are operational in 10 districts, and there are plans to expand these services to 8 more districts, including Madurai, Salem, and Karur, in the coming year.
As part of the celebration, awards and recognitions were presented to children who are successfully managing Type 1 diabetes, and to children who have recovered from cancer and other illnesses.
