People with diabetes have high chance of getting heart disease. This pattern is widespread across the world.

India has been often labelled as the Diabetic Capital of the World due to higher number of diabetic cases reported once in 5 or 10 years. It is no longer just an elderly issue. The incidence is rising rapidly among young adults aged 25 to 40, extending up to age 60.

“We are seeing a massive surge in Cardio-Diabetes, where diabetic patients develop cardiovascular issues like heart attacks, heart failure, and strokes. While diabetes generally occurs first and cardio-vascular diseases occur next, it may co-exist in 15 to 20% of people,” says Dr.Adityan Guhan, Director, AGs Healthcare.

In 1990, the rate of cardio-diabetes cases was 162 per 1,00,000 people in Tamil Nadu. By 2021, it doubled to 300, says Dr.Guhan. Citing a JIPMER statistics, he mentioned that 70% of such cases remain undiagnosed. “We are only seeing the tip of the iceberg, while the massive base of undiagnosed patients continues to grow,” he says.

Being one of the pioneers in promoting preventive healthcare among youngsters in Western Tamil Nadu, Dr.Adityan Guhan launched Cardio Diabetes Camp on World Health Day 2026, offering both diabetes and cardiology tests in a single package for adults between 25 and 60 years of age from April 7 to 11.

To promote awareness about cardio-diabetes, AGs Healthcare is offering this package that usually costs Rs.10,000 for just Rs.1,000.  The test includes HbA1c, which is considered the gold standard in blood-sugar level investigations as it shows a person’s average level of blood sugar, over the past two to three months.
