After the recent devastating Hurricane Melissa, one of the most powerful Atlantic hurricanes on record, India has extended its support to Jamaica and Cuba.

The hurricane made landfall in Jamaica on October 28, 2025, with extremely strong winds before striking Cuba, causing widespread destruction.

Lending hands, India has dispatched 20 tonnes of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) materials each to Jamaica and Cuba.

An Indian Air Force flight carrying the aid — including Aarogya Maitri BHISHM Cubes (It is a state-of-the-art portable Cube containing assistance), rehabilitation support items, food and essential supplies, medicines, medical equipment, power generators, shelter materials, and hygiene kits — departed from New Delhi today, 4th November 2025.

Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister of India, tweeted on X that India stands with its Global South partners in times of natural disasters and remains committed to supporting recovery and reconstruction efforts.

Hurricane Melissa brought severe rainfall, flooding, and extensive damage across the Caribbean.

In Jamaica, large parts of the island were left without power, and many homes and key infrastructure were destroyed. In Cuba, the storm caused heavy flooding and large-scale damage to homes and agriculture, also affecting parts of Haiti and the Bahamas.
