The Amrita School of Business (ASB), Coimbatore, in collaboration with the Project Management Institute (PMI) Chennai Chapter, recently inaugurated the first-ever PMI Student Club in Tamil Nadu, marking a significant milestone in project management education and industry–academia collaboration.
The ceremony was graced by Chief Guests Anand Muthuswamy, Chairman – Branding & Sustainability Committee, Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) and Sabhari Girish, Head of Sustainability, Sulochana Mills, who spoke on sustainability as a key driver of innovation, competitiveness, and social responsibility.
Nava Subramaniam, Dean, ASB, and Ajith Kumar, Registrar, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, highlighted the importance of embedding global project management practices into academics.
“The new PMI–ASB Student Club will give our students real-world opportunities, help them build leadership skills, and connect them to global networks, reinforcing the school’s role as a frontrunner in management education in Tamil Nadu,” said Subramaniam.

Representing PMI Chennai, Parvez Alam, Past President; Vijay Narayanan, President; Madhan Ram Arumugam, Secretary; and Shyam Sundar, Vice President, Outreach, highlighted the role of project management in fostering innovation, resilience, and entrepreneurship.
Narayanan officially launched the Student Club, while Sundar announced its newly elected office bearers.
