Currently, in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures can cause both physical and psychological discomfort for patients. To address this and enhance the training of IVF specialists and doctors, PSG Hospitals, PSG Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (PSGIMSR), the Centre for Translational Research in Reproductive Health (CTR2H), and PSG Institute of Advanced Studies, Coimbatore, jointly organized a two-day workshop titled ‘IVF: Advances in Simulation and Practices’.
The workshop was held on 2nd and 3rd May 2025 at PSG Hospitals, with sponsorship from Reprosci Biosciences Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore.
The event was designed for postgraduate medical students specialising in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, IVF specialists, embryologists, and IVF trainees. Its primary aim was to harness the potential of simulation technology to improve outcomes in assisted reproductive techniques, particularly IVF.
The workshop was inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr. J. S. Bhuvaneswaran, Director, PSG Hospitals, and Guest of Honour Dr. T. M. Subba Rao, Principal, PSGIMSR, Coimbatore.
Dr. Latha Maheswari, Head of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at PSGIMSR, welcomed the gathering, while Dr. G. Athilakshmi, IVF specialist at PSGIMSR, briefed the participants about the workshop’s objectives and structure.
Keynote lectures were delivered by a distinguished panel of experts, including Dr. R. Selvakumar, Professor and Head at the Centre for Translational Research in Reproductive Health (CTR2H), PSG Institute of Advanced Studies, shared insights into recent innovations in IVF. Dr. Kannaki Uthraraj, IVF specialist from KMCH and Thamarai Fertility Centre, and Dr. G. Athilakshmi from the Fertility Clinic & Centre for Reproductive Medicine, PSGIMSR, provided practical perspectives on clinical advancements. Dr. Vidhya Prem from Tiruppur Medical Foundation Hospital, Tiruppur, and Dr. Shwetha Ashok Harnal from GarbhaGudi IVF Centre, Bangalore,
Prateek Waghmare, Program Manager at Reprosci Biosciences Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore, presented the key features of the simulators.
More than 75 participants from various hospitals, IVF centres, and universities across Tamil Nadu and Karnataka—including Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Perundurai, Salem, and Bangalore—attended the workshop and received hands-on training.
Participants practiced using advanced simulators, including high-fidelity ovum pickup simulators, embryo transfer simulators, and a virtual reality setup for IVF training developed by Reprosci Biosciences.
