The Department of Plant Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics, Centre for Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (CPMB&B), Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), organized a Hands-on Training on “Shell Programming” recently.
The training programme aimed to equip students with practical knowledge of shell scripting and command-line tools widely used in bioinformatics and computational biology.
The session was delivered by Arul Kumar Palaniswamy, Founder and Chief Technologist, Aditi Digital, Kanuvai, Coimbatore, who served as the resource person. Through interactive demonstrations and hands-on exercises, he introduced participants to the fundamentals of Linux operating systems, shell programming, file handling, scripting techniques, process automation, and their applications in biological data analysis.
The practical sessions enabled students to gain valuable computational skills essential for research and industry.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Sridevy, Professor, who highlighted the significance of shell programming and computational skills in the field of bioinformatics and biotechnology.
The session concluded with a felicitation address by Senthil, Director, CPMB&B, and Arul, Head, Department of Plant Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics, who appreciated the resource person for delivering an informative and practice-oriented training programme.
They encouraged students to continuously strengthen their computational expertise to meet the evolving needs of life science research.
The hands-on training was attended by III Year B.Tech. (Bioinformatics) and III Year B.Tech. (Biotechnology) students, who actively participated in the practical sessions.
