The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at PSG Institute of Technology and Applied Research (PSG iTech), Neelambur, organized the 2nd IEEE International Conference on Smart Systems for Electrical, Electronics, Communication & Computer Engineering – 2026 recently.
It is a CSIR-sponsored gathering held over two days, August 28 and 29, under the theme “Sustainability Through Intelligent AI.” The event drew researchers, academicians and industry experts from organisations including DRDO, NIELIT, IIT Palakkad, Rockwell Automation and SanDisk, and saw as many as 180 research papers presented over the two days.
Duvvuri Seshagiri, Distinguished Scientist and Director of NPOL, DRDO, Ministry of Defence, Kochi, was the chief guest of the inaugural session. In his inaugural address, Seshagiri spoke about the importance of putting technology and artificial intelligence to work in the service of people, pointing in particular to healthcare, medicine, agriculture, food production and productivity as areas where AI could make a meaningful difference. He called for AI development that remains human-centered and responsible, enhancing human capability rather than displacing it.
The proceedings across both days were chaired by Vijayakumar, Head of the Department of ECE and Dean, Electrical and Computer Engineering. Saravanakumar, Principal of PSG iTech, delivered the presidential address, while Rudramoorthy, Director of PSG CARE, offered the felicitation address. The conference was steered by its organizing secretaries, Deepa, Assistant Professor (Selection Grade), and RajaRaja, Assistant Professor (Senior Grade), both from the Department of ECE.
Proceedings closed on August 29 with a valedictory function at 3:30 pm, at which P. Sakthivel, Chairman of the IEEE Madras Section, was the chief guest, and P. V. Mohanram, Secretary of PSG iTech, delivered the presidential address.
The two days also featured a line-up of keynote speakers drawn from academia and industry. On August 28, Jayaraj U Kidav, Executive Director of NIELIT, Calicut, and Subramanian Mula, Associate Professor at IIT Palakkad, addressed delegates. The following day, August 29, saw talks by Jayakumar R R, Senior Distributor Manager at Rockwell Automation, Bengaluru, and Prakash Talawar, Senior Technologist and a firmware and post-silicon expert at SanDisk, Bengaluru, recognised globally for his work in flash and embedded systems.
