In a significant step towards promoting road safety, the Rotary Club of Coimbatore Downtown, in partnership with Vakaman Developers India, handed over a series of traffic barricades to the Coimbatore City Traffic Police.
The handover ceremony took place recently at the Gounder Mill campus, a property of Vakaman Developers.
This initiative is part of the Rotary Club’s ongoing Traffic Awareness Program, conducted in collaboration with the Coimbatore City Traffic Police.
The program aims to foster a culture of responsibility and safety on the roads. Previous efforts have included recognising vigilant citizens as “Traffic Heroes,” organising stress-relief sessions for police inspectors, and providing medical assistance to injured officers.
The newly installed barricades are strategically placed along Aanaikatti road, a stretch notorious for accidents due to rash driving.
This area also experiences regular wildlife crossings, posing risks to both humans and animals. The barricades serve not only to regulate traffic but also as a reminder for drivers to exercise caution and respect all lives sharing the road.
Rtn. PHF Vasudevan, Director of Vakaman Developers and Project Chairman, emphasised the importance of this initiative, stating, “Our roads are lifelines that connect communities and dreams. It’s our duty to ensure they are safe for everyone.”
Ashok Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, who received the barricades, expressed his appreciation: “We appreciate this support. These barricades will make a real difference in accident-prone areas, and it’s heartening to see the community come together to care for one another’s safety.”
The event was attended by Rtn. PHF Sumit Kumar Prasad, President of the Club; Rtn. PHF S. Vikram Kumar, Secretary, club members, and senior police officials.
This collaboration between the Rotary Club of Coimbatore Downtown and Vakaman Developers exemplifies how community organisations and private enterprises can unite to make a lasting impact on society.
