The Rotary Club of Coimbatore inaugurated the “Save Our Daughters – A Cyber Safety and Self-Defence Project” at ELGi School, Coimbatore, with the participation of 100 girl students on 12th September 2025.
This initiative, a Rotary International District (RID) 3206’s Priority Project under the “Daughters” program, aims to create 3,206 Cyber Champions and positively impact 35,266 girls across the district through cyber awareness and self-defence training.
iExplore Foundation for Sustainable Development serves as the knowledge partner for this transformative program.
The event was presided over by Rtn. PHF. Chitra Manohar, President of the Rotary Club of Coimbatore.
The event was graced by the presence of Rtn. Subramanian, District Governor Nominee of RID 3206; Rtn. Kavitha Gopalakrishnan, Chair of Daughters; Rtn. Varadharajan, District Director; Rtn. Jayakandhan, Assistant Governor; Rtn. Navaneethakrishnan, Project Coordinator and Rtn. The management of ELGi School extended strong support for the program, with Mani, Correspondent; Meenambika Menon, Principal; and Archana, Vice Principal, joining the inauguration and appreciating Rotary’s initiative to empower young girls.
Speaking on the occasion, Rtn. Subramanian emphasised the importance of equipping girls with both digital awareness and physical self-defence skills. He remarked that in a world where smartphones and the internet are part of children’s lives from a very young age, it is vital to empower them to recognise risks and stay safe.
Rtn. Kavitha Gopalakrishnan highlighted the larger vision of the initiative, stating that the goal is to nurture 3,206 cyber champions across the district who will not only safeguard themselves but also spread awareness to peers and communities, creating a ripple effect that will benefit over 35,000 girls.
The program will include structured sessions on cyber safety awareness, digital well-being, resilience against cyberbullying and grooming, and practical self-defence techniques to boost confidence and ensure physical safety.
With this rollout across schools in Coimbatore and other regions of RID 3206, Rotary envisions creating one of the most impactful movements for girl child safety in the district.
