While most of us are familiar with AC (Air-Conditioning), it is widely known that only people in the technical field are accustomed to the concept of HVAC.

HVAC stands for Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning systems. The usage of HVAC is in large establishments such as Malls, Multiplex, Hospitals, Large Halls in Hotels etc., for various reasons. It can cool the air, filter dust and pollutants, improve air quality, and when needed it can heat the air inside a premises as per required.

HVAC technology is getting smarter every year, and to give a clear idea of it to the students of PSG Polytechnic College, a special one-day seminar on it was held on Wednesday.

The college’s Foundry Technology Department joined hands with the Institution of Engineers – India, Coimbatore to organize this seminar on the topic Smart HVAC Systems : Energy Efficiency, Control and Monitoring.

Pradeep Kumar, President of The Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ISHRAE)- Coimbatore took part as the Chief Guest of the inaugural and addressed the participants.

“The air quality inside this seminar hall requires a certain kind of air quality. If it is an operation theatre, when a doctor operates, more filtration is required. If it is a factory where a lot of fumes come out, that has to be, once again, treated. HVAC performs all this and this industry is rapidly growing,” said Pradeep Kumar.

As air conditioning requirements are growing everywhere today, HVAC industry is growing at a very enormous speed. Hence, endeavour towards making it smarter is going to be the key. Towards that end, AI has been introduced within the air conditioning industry and HVAC industry.

Pradeep also conveyed the students that the HVAC is an interesting industry, and it is focusing on power efficiency, sustainability and decarbonizing etc. He then briefed about the career opportunities available in the industry to the students, and underlined that it offers great scope for mechanical engineers as well.

Earlier at the inaugural, Senthilkumar, Chairman, IEI – Coimbatore welcomed the gathering. Prof.Arasu, Head of Foundry Technology Dept gave an overview of the seminar. The event covers lot of interesting topics including Smart Controls, Automation in HVAC Systems. Subject and industry experts addressed the participants.
