In a joint civic initiative to promote road safety and community health, the Department of Biochemistry, NCC Girls Wing, and Anti-Drug Awareness Committee of Kongunadu Arts and Science College (KASC), in association with the Rotary Club of Coimbatore Centennial, organised a two-fold awareness campaign on Wednesday at the Thudiyalur Bus Stand.
The first initiative focused on affixing high-contrast black-spot stickers to the centre of headlights on two-wheelers and four-wheelers.
The stickers help diffuse intense high-beam light, thereby reducing dangerous nighttime glare for oncoming motorists along the busy Mettupalayam Highway without compromising the visibility of the vehicle’s driver.
The drive involved 50 student cadets, five Rotarians, and six faculty members. Narendhirakannan, Head, Department of Biochemistry and President of the Rotary Club of Coimbatore Centennial; NCC Officer Major Kavitha; and Thirugnanasampandan, Assistant Professor of Botany and Coordinator of the Anti-Drug Awareness Committee, spearheaded the initiative, with support from Assistant Professors Nirubama and Poornima.
Following the headlight-awareness drive, the team conducted an Anti-Drug Abuse Awareness Rally from Thudiyalur to Viswanathapuram. The rally aimed to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and promote public health and civic responsibility.
Officers from the Thudiyalur Police Station extended their support throughout both events by efficiently managing traffic and ensuring the smooth conduct of the programmes.
