In Bihar, a woman named Dipti has filed a complaint stating that her mother-in-law pressured her to donate a kidney to her husband as dowry, because she was unable to provide a bike, money, or jewellery.
Dipti’s husband suffers from a kidney disorder, which led the mother-in-law to make this unusual and coercive demand. The woman has complained to the Women’s Police Station in Muzaffarpur.
According to the Free Press Journal, Dipti claimed that she was unaware of her husband’s kidney ailment at the time of marriage. Initially, her in-laws did not demand dowry. However, when she was unable to provide it later, they allegedly pressured her to donate her kidney as a substitute dowry.
She also reported being physically assaulted, after which she returned to her mother’s home. Following this, she filed a case against her in-laws, and the police have now booked her husband and three others in the family.
Now, an investigation has been launched in this connection.
