Sunita Williams, along with Perry Wilmore, returned to Earth on March 18, 2025, after spending an extended period in space. Both hold the record for spending 286 days in space, traveling over 12 million miles and orbiting Earth 4,576 times. They covered a distance of 12,134,7491 miles.
Sunita walked in space for 62 hours and 6 minutes, setting the record for the woman with the most time spent walking in space. She ranks fourth on the overall list of people who have spent the most time walking in space.
Sunita Williams gave her first media interview along with astronaut Wilmore. In the interview, she mentioned, “It was amazing to see India from space. Every time we passed over the Himalayas, Wilmore took some wonderful photographs. The view of the Himalayas was spectacular, stretching across India. When you look at India from space, the lights from Mumbai to Gujarat shine brightly at night, creating a magnificent view.”
She continued, “One day, I hope to visit my father’s homeland. India is a great country—a wonderful democracy.” “I am ready to assist India in future space research,” Sunita Williams said.
