Most people don’t seem to like upma, though they often don’t know exactly why. Some simply prefer other dishes like dosas, idlis, parottas, and more.
Similarly, a 3-year-old boy from Kerala, named Trijal S Sundhar — fondly known as Shanku — told his mother that he wanted biryani and chicken fry instead of upma at his anganwadi.
His mother, Ashwathy, posted a video of his adorable request on Instagram on January 26, and it quickly caught public attention. The video even reached Kerala’s Health and Women & Child Welfare Minister, Veena George.
The minister promised to look into the matter, and soon after, the Kerala government revised the anganwadi food menu.
The new menu now includes dishes like egg biryani and pulao. Shanku’s innocent request led to a real change in anganwadi meals across the state, making him a little hero from Alappuzha.
