Department of Microbiology at Hindusthan College of Arts & Science inaugurated the Pasteurians Microbiology Student Association for the academic year 2026–2027 on Monday.
The inaugural function marked the commencement of the department’s academic and co-curricular activities for the new academic year, with the objective of fostering scientific knowledge, leadership, innovation, and professional development among microbiology students.
The programme was graced by Krishna Kumar, Head of the Department of Veterinary Public Health and Epidemiology, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Udumalpet, Tamil Nadu, as the chief guest.
The event was presided over by Ponnusamy, Principal, who encouraged students to actively participate in the academic and professional activities of the association. He also emphasised the importance of research, innovation, ethical values, and continuous learning in shaping successful careers in the life sciences.
Delivering the keynote address, Krishna Kumar spoke on the evolving scope of microbiology and its indispensable role in public health, epidemiology, food safety, veterinary sciences, biotechnology, and environmental sustainability. He encouraged students to cultivate scientific curiosity, interdisciplinary perspectives, research aptitude, and professional ethics to prepare themselves for future challenges in healthcare and scientific research.
A special highlight of the programme was the felicitation of faculty members from the Department of Microbiology who have authored and published books in their respective fields of expertise. They were recognised for their significant scholarly contributions to academia and higher education. Their achievements served as an inspiration to both students and fellow educators.
Lali Growther, Head of the Department of Microbiology, served as the convener, while Ajitha, Assistant Professor and Association In-charge, coordinated the programme.
