GEM Hospital, in collaboration with the Liver Transplant Society of India (LTSI), is hosting a two-day National Liver Transplant Conference in Coimbatore.

The conference was inaugurated today (14th June 2025) and will continue on 15th June 2025.

The event brings together over 400 doctors from across the country.

The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Gopalakrishnan, Chief Member Secretary of Tamil Nadu’s Organ Donation Program (TRANSTAN).

It is led by Dr. Palanivelu, Chairman of GEM Hospitals, and organised by renowned liver transplant specialists Dr. AnandVijai and Dr. Magnus Jayaraj.

The conference features a wide range of sessions focused on cutting-edge surgical techniques, including in-depth discussions on robotic surgery and laparoscopic procedures in liver transplantation.

Medical professionals are engaging in detailed sessions on the latest research findings and clinical guidelines, making the event particularly valuable for postgraduate students and future doctors specialising in transplant medicine.

A unique highlight of the event was a live surgical demonstration broadcast from Seoul, South Korea, to GEM Hospital on 13th June.

In a historic first for India, the conference also features a full-day ‘Liver ICU Training’ program designed specifically for intensive care unit (ICU) nurses.

This pioneering initiative addresses both pre-operative patient preparation and post-operative care protocols for liver transplant recipients. It is the first large-scale educational program of its kind for nursing professionals at a national medical conference in the country.

The training covers critical areas of patient care, including surgical preparation, post-operative monitoring techniques, and comprehensive patient management strategies.

Sessions also include presentations on advancements in liver transplant anaesthesia, organ donation protocols for ICU medical staff, and enhanced post-operative management techniques.
