Within a single week, the students teams from Coimbatore’s Kumaraguru Institution who competed in various prestigious, international competitions in Europe brought home back to back accolades and recognition for its outstanding sustainability-focused innovations.
Team InCraft designed and built India’s first student-made, human-powered submarine to compete at the European International Submarine Races (eISR) 2026 in the United Kingdom; Team Sea Sakthi built an entirely in-house advanced electric racing catamaran to participate in the 13th edition of Monaco Energy Boat Challenge while Team Sulal demonstrated the efficiency of their small wind turbine prototype at the International Small Wind Turbine Contest in Netherlands – all while facing solid competition from fellow global competitors.
Making history at the European International Submarine Races in the United Kingdom, Team InCraft became the first Indian squad to win the IMarEST Sustainability Award.
In Monaco, Team Sea Sakthi proved their technological dominance by receiving the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation Sustainability Award at the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge. This recognition includes a €25,000 grant to fund future innovations and comes in addition to two technology awards the team previously secured at the same event.
At the International Small Wind Turbine Contest – Netherlands, Team Sulal was named the Runner-Up for the Sustainability Award with their small wind turbine prototype.
“By securing recognition in three different European nations, the students of Kumaraguru Institutions have demonstrated that Indian engineering talent can successfully design, build, and compete with globally relevant technological solutions,” Kumaraguru Institutions said via a press release.
