The Department of Food Technology and Agricultural Engineering at Nehru Institute of Technology organised a rally under the theme “The Right to Food for Well-being and a Better Future” to celebrate World Food Day, at Race Course on 22nd October 2024.
The rally was inaugurated by Kanna, President, Indian Dairy Association Tamil Nadu. Murali, owner of A1 Chips, Arjun, Police Inspector, Race Course, Ganesh Thantri, Director of Agnya Wellness Products, Sivaraj, Principal of the Nehru Institute of Technology, Nagaraja, Executive Director of the Nehru Educational Group, Muralidharan, Director (Public Relations), along with Hema Prabha, Dean, Heads of Departments, and faculty members from the Department of Food Technology and Agricultural Engineering.
In a message, Dr. P. Krishnakumar, CEO and Secretary of the Nehru Educational Group, noted that World Food Day is celebrated annually on October 16 to commemorate the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in 1945.
The announcement for this day was made during the 20th General Conference of the organization in November 1979 and has since been celebrated in over 150 countries.
He highlighted the issue of food scarcity in various parts of the world and urged that every morsel wasted could be a lifeline for those suffering from hunger. Therefore, we should avoid wasting food and focus on consuming nutritious foods that contribute to a healthy body.
Over 400 students from their Nehru Educational Group participated in the event.
