The Department of Zoology, Nirmala College for Women, organised the Wildlife Week Celebration 2026 from 28th September to 1st October to create awareness about wildlife conservation, biodiversity and environmental protection.

The programme was organised under the guidance of the Chief Patron, Kulandai Therese, Secretary, and Patron, Mary Fabiola, Principal. Convener, Rosaline Mary, Head, Dean, School of Sciences.

On 28th September 2026, the programme commenced with the release of this year’s Eco-Magazine, marking an important occasion for promoting environmental awareness and conservation among students. This was followed by a guest lecture on “Wildlife Conservation” by Buvanesh, District Forest Officer, Coimbatore, and Sirajdeen, Coordinator, Wildlife & Nature Conservation Trust (WNCT), Coimbatore.

On September 29, Intercollegiate competitions, including face painting on “Beauty of Animals,” rangoli on “Wildlife Conservation”, and a Wildlife Quiz, were also conducted. Students from Kongunadu Arts and Science College, Government Arts College and Hindusthan College of Arts and Science, along with Nirmala College students ( Intradepartmental), participated in the celebrations.
Also, an ornamental fish sale was organised to promote awareness about ornamental fish culture and its practical applications.
On September 30, an expert lecture was organised on the topic “From Curiosity to Conservation: Research Methodology in Zoology”. The resource person was Daniel, Director (Research & Education), LIFE Trust India, Coimbatore. The lecture focused on the importance of scientific curiosity, systematic research methodology and the role of zoological research in biodiversity conservation.

The celebrations concluded on October 1 with visits by college students and school children to the Zoology Museum and vermicompost unit, creating awareness about biodiversity, sustainable practices and environmental conservation.
