As healthcare increasingly moves beyond treating disease to addressing the wider physical, mental and lifestyle factors that influence well-being, PSG Super Speciality Hospital, in collaboration with The Arya Vaidya Pharmacy (AVP), Coimbatore on Wednesday launched a dedicated Integrated Medicine Facility at A-Block, Fourth Floor of the hospital.

The initiative brings Modern Medicine, Ayurveda and Yoga together within a hospital-based care environment, with patients receiving coordinated inputs from Modern Medicine specialists, Ayurveda Vaidyas , Yoga and Naturopathy doctors.

The facility was inaugurated with a ribbon-cutting by Devidas Varier, Managing Director, AVP, along with Dr. Bhuvaneswaran, Director of the hospital, and Dr. Subbarao, Principal, PSG Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (PSG IMSR). Dr. Balaji, Director, PSG Institute of Oncology; Dr. Varunn, Medical Superintendent of the hospital; and other doctors were present.
The facility will provide integrated consultations for arthritis, lifestyle disorders, diabetes, hypertension, stress, insomnia and preventive healthcare.
Rather than viewing the different systems as isolated streams of treatment, the model envisages patients being assessed by professionals from the respective disciplines, with the approach tailored to individual requirements. Authentic Panchakarma therapies will also form part of the services available through the facility, according to a press release issued by the hospital.

According to PSG Hospitals, the facility has been developed in alignment with the hospital’s interpretation of the National Medical Commission guidelines concerning integrative medicine and the integration of Modern Medicine with AYUSH systems.
The emphasis, however, is not simply on combining therapies. The larger proposition is to establish a coordinated framework in which clinical assessment, traditional systems of medicine and therapeutic lifestyle practices can be considered together, where appropriate, the release stated.
By bringing Modern Medicine, Ayurveda and Yoga together under one institutional framework, PSG Hospitals and AVP are seeking to create a model in which medical expertise, traditional knowledge and lifestyle-based interventions can work in greater coordination, with the patient at the centre of the care journey, the release added.
